A subject you enjoyed studying this semester

I knew and learnt a lot of new things this semester, but, if I have to talk about te subject a like the most, it would be, definitely, “Fundamentos de la Arquitectura”.

First, I was so exited to know this subject, because, this is like the second part of History, that I had the first semester, where I enjoyed learn about the Architecture, so, I think that it could be similar.

Second, my teachers were really nice, and the enviroment in class was comfy, so, I waited with enthusiasm, every day, have this class.

In this subject I learnt, mainly, about the Architecture through the years, and how the historic context, influenced in it. I can name some topics that I consider the most interesting to me, like the avant-garde (where I did a presentation about Constructivism), the social housing, and some importants Architects (as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Norman Foster or Frank Lloyd Wright).

During the semester, every class was so interesting and different. Our teacher not only taught with the theory, she taught us with her experience too. Some classes told us about her trips or studies, in other we saw movies, and once we visited “Villa Portales”; there we drew and went down the place.

In conclusion, I liked this subject beacuse was an interesting and different way to see the Architecture. In spite of the fact that I´ll leave this subject back, I’m sure that I’ll enjoyed the next ones like I enjoyed this. Everything is experience and knowledge, and that is so valuable.

A photograph you like

One of my favorite hobbies is photography. In fact, I made a course of photography few years ago. In every trip, adventure, or my everyday nature I take photos of everything; everything that express something to me or others, because all the things, actions, or people, that we see in pictures, are saying something.

If I´m honest, I couldn´t say what is my favorite photograph, that is a so complicated resolution. Therefore, I’ll show you one of that I like the most (among many others).

Eiffel Tower, located in Paris, France. October 3th, 2019. 

Europe is one of the most beautiful places in the world, any country there is spectacular, landscapes, culture, people, food, architecture, etc... In 2019 I knew two very different countries of this continent: Italy and France. There I knew so many places with a special charm. Without a doubt Italy is, up to now, my favorite country. However, Eiffel Tower, is something that I can’t express with words. Since it beginning, with it story and construction, have been a place that left a mark on the France history, and I wanted portray that (I took this picture). So, as you can see, this photograph show us the Eiffel Tower over our heads (in perspective), in that way, the tower appear bigger, taller.

I like this picture because shows the Eiffel Tower imposigness that remember me this beauiful place and trip. Is like return to that moment.

At the end, the photographs are something more that we simply see. Photos are, history, art, feelings, culture, family, time. Photos are part of us.

Changes to my study program

About the changes that I could be made to my study program, definitely, it would be focus in the curriculum and teaching methods.

In the first place, the curriculum don’t need big changes, I think that is right (well, I’m in first year, so I can’t say so much about it), however, I would like to have more practical clases, and I don´t talk about “Taller”, I allude to construction clases, go out to explore, learn with the practice more than the theory (that I consider equally important).

In the second place, is so valuable the way that some teachers teach us, beceause that is the first step to attract the students to keep learning. So, this could be regulated somehow. Is more atriking when teachers are interesting in show us and teach us the subject, compare when teachers only speak for agreement.

Now, infrastructure, what can I say about that? The faculty is not the best, have not the best buildings, or things like that. How we know, buildings are protect (or something like that), so, there are not way (or is so difficult) to demolish or build. In any case, I don´t have soooo much problem with that. It could be better? Yes. The biggest problema with this is the maintenance (but not about the cleanliness). How the faculty is so old, need more care, paint, repairs, deep clean, etc… Maybe, this point is something that need to be constant.

At last but not least, the technology is the way we need to know to develo pus. Technology is one of the most important things in present, all turn arround this, so is really important that we (like students, professionals, and people in general) need to know. Therefore, use the technology and learn about technology need to be present in the career. In my case, Architecture, has a good use of technology, so not need to improve so much in that, it could be better, but its right.

Summer Holidays

Well, I don´t have any plan for summer holidays yet, but I think that the best ones are the spontaneous ones. So, I hope have the opportunity to know new places, activities, people, or something else, and in this way, amass more experiences.

However, and if I can, I would like to do a road trip across the countries that border with Chile, as Argentina, Bolivia and Peru; adding others as Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay. This is something that I want to do since so many time ago.

On the other side, I would like go all over Chile, to know the places unknow for me. This trip is more accesible (especially because is cheaper) than the plan before, so, it could be an option.

In both cases, I would like to do extreme activities, or something related to the outside. In general I like do trips to know and discover (walk, trekking, visit places, take potos, etc…); although can be weird, I’m not the kind of person who travel to relax (as resorts or something like that).

And the most important thing, as far as to me, are the travel partners, people that make you feel good and comfortable. For this reason holidays are my moment to spend time with my family, so I consider them my travel partners.

Despite of all the particulars, I want make the most of this summer holidays, and enjoy whatever I´ll do.

Free Post “Educational System”

About the Chilean education. What can I say? We need improve our educational system . 

There be fewer and fewer young people that dedicate to education. The percentage of students that choose being teachers is really low, consider the importance of the education and the big population that need it. 

In the first place, the teachers need more merit for their work. They are one of the most important pillar in our life (besides our parents and familiy, in most of the times), who give us the tools to develop us and grow up in the world and life experiences. In addition, the salary don’t make up for all the things they do.

In the second place, the quality between the public and private education should be the same. There are a lot of difference that should not exist, as infrastructure, furniture, safety conditions, etc…

When we grow up, we can see the little chances that have a lot of people to continue their studies, in their last years of school or in college. For this reason, the education should be accessible to all the people. Currently is necessary to have opportunities in the world. 

About the system, how we learn and how they teach, that need change urgently. Chile is the country with the best educational system in South America, can you imagine that? However, we are not even close to the educational systems in the other countries more development. Now, what are the bad things and how we change it? The problem is that the students are not motivated to keep learning. Our educational system have not modified since so many years ago. The children and youngster want discovered, not memorize and copy something that do all their school time, so the repetition is not an option. Is necessary encourage them to touch, see, listen new things. Follow their rules, do whatever they want, learn of the way that they want (listening music, manipulating, singing, running, whatever), beacause we are all different, and don’t follow the rules and the multitude, sometimes, it’s great.

Post graduate studies

Due to I’m a really indecisive person, of course I would like to study again, when I finish Architecture. Now, what? I’m not pretty sure (there are so many things to learn, know and discover).

In the first place, I would like to do a master, or something like that, to improve my professional career as Architect (in this moment I don’t know what specialization I could do, but I’ll know when the moment comes, I hope so). Nevertheless, I would like study another career too; the problem with that is the time and money (could be a good dream). 

In addition, if I have the oportunity and conditions to study outside of Chile, or another region (whatever place that take me out of the routine), I’ll do it. And, in that case or another, I would like do it face-to-face, or blended system if is complicated to me do it in-person (but I prefer face-to-face). 

Why I want continue studying? We never stop of learn, I guess. But has the chance to do something that you want and like, is a great oportunity to grow up and progress (knowledge is power). The most important thing is be enthusiastic (never give up to get all the things and goals you have).

You can do it! Believe in your own development.

My future job

My future job. Well, I haven’t thought a lot about my future job, I think that in this part of my life, I’m living day by day. In my case, Architecture has so many and different things to do, so I can’t imagine me doing only one thing.

However, one thing that I want, without exceptions, is work outdoors. I think that the office work is not my style, and sometimes boring. Although, I would try it (all is an experience that add knowledge). In spite of that, one of the most important thing to me is the workplace. To be a great development, not only in my professional life, also related to my everyday nature, is necessary work in a place where you feel comfortable.

Now, I would like travel in my job? Yes. A lot? Of course. My biggest goal is travel, anywhere, know the world, meet different people, ideas and cultures; travel in my job is an excelent and only opportunity that can help me to grow up as a person and architect.

About the salary, I don’t have the minimum idea of that (but i want to be rich).

How I said before, I’m not sure what I want to do, therefore, when the time comes, I’ll pick my major. Nevertheless, now, I don’t want something related to the construction, I’m more of design (I love the interior design) or something like that, but maybe, in the future, I’ll change my mind.

I want be innovative, a support to my workmate (in general, the people in my enviroment), try different things, options and chances.  

Career Related Topic

Choose a career is extremely hard, especially when you don´t know what you want to do the rest of your life. The problem is that you don't do only one permanent thing for the rest of your life, is how you manipulate your tools (as studies, specializations, etc...) for do different things. Architecture is not only about design buildings, like Psychology is not always talk about the problems and feelings of a person, or Engineering is not only math. With the years and experience you can end doing something completely different compared with the things that you started doing. 

In my case, choose a career was something complicated. When I went out of school, and after a really long time of investigation with my school's counselor, I decided study Architecture (between many other careers). Why? That's a really good question. I think that my family context took part of that, because when I was a child, my dad worked as draftsman designer (drawing blueprints), and my mom, as a kindergarten teacher, always wanted that I do handmade and invigorating things/activities. When I grew up, I realized that I was good at it. But the truth is that I took the risk. 

Due to mentioned before, Architecture was my first option, however, I thought study other careers, like Journalism, Psychology, Kinesiology, Nutrition, Pedagogy, Marine Biology, and many others. 

At the moment, I really like this career. Most of the times is so hard and stressful, you can be wrong sometimes but is so exciting how you learn and understand how solve your mistakes ("you learn of your mistakes"). 

So, this is an adventure for me!

Movies (best movie/best director/best genre)

 Since I was little, I love go to the cinema (especially with my family), but I like go there for the environment that provide this place (and the popcorn).

I’m not really sure what is my favorite movie (I’m a indecisive person), I thing that all movies have good and bad things, but that is part of them; so I have not a favorite movie. However, I’m a huge fan of “Law and order: SVU” (a series), I see it every single day with may dad. The director of this series is Dick Wolf. He created other series like “Chicago Fire”, “Chicago Med” and “Chicago PD” (all these series are the police gender). So I would consider Dick Wolf my favorite director. Therefore, you can guess that one of my favorite genre is the police (or crime and mistery too), but I like others as comedy and movies base don real life.

If I have the oportunity to know some persone related to the movies or theatre, definitely, I would like meet Robert De Niro, Adam Sandler or Julia Roberts, because they leave a mark on the art world.

All movies or series have something to say, the performance, production, make up, and others; all of this things are responsable to give us another world.

The best holidays I´ve had

In 2017 I went, with my familiy (my dad, mom and little brother), to Punta Arenas for the summer holidays. There was a car trip, so not only I knew Punta Arenas, but also, I knew Argentina and its beautiful regions. My dad is from Punta Arenas, so we went to know his land and visit the paternal family. Before this trip I have never been there, so was a excelent experience.

There were so may days on the road (close of 5 days). One of my favorite place in Argentina was “El Bolsón”, we were there one night, my brother always remember the guesthouse “Meridiano 70”, where we meet a lovely cat (by the way, my brother is allergic to cats), and its awesome ice cream. We went to “San Julian” too; here we ate the best barbecue EVER.

One of my favorite momories was when we went to buy ice cream and, with my brother, take out a plush toy (Hulk) of the toy machine. We ate a A LOT of “media lunas” (we love it).

In Punta Arenas we stayed like a week. My dad is a very good tour guide, so we went to a lot of places, for example: “Torres del Paine”, “Cueba del Milodón”, “Fuerte San Bulnes”, and other many places that I don’t remember its names.

That´s my favorite holidays, beacuse I spent the time with my family, I ate so delicious and knew new and beautiful places.

A country I would like to visit

If I have the oportunity to travel anywhere, I probably choose any country. I think that all the places have something to show us and teach us. In this case (that I can pick only one), I would like go to Norway. Why? I say, why not?

Norway is located at north of Europe, is part of the Scandinavian península, and a really cold place (is ironic ‘cause I hate cold places). This is one of the countrys best qualified to live as a woman, is safe, with fair salary between men and women, and low levels of male chauvinism. Also, is famous for the Northen Lights (or Aurora Borealis), and its beautiful landscape, mountains and lakes (is a perfect place to do trekking).

For the moment, I want to go in holidays or for a voluntary work, as I said before, I’m not a cold lover, so I don´t want stay there forever.

I want know all of this exceptional things,as well as, learn about its tradition and culture (live like a Norwegian). I think that go to Norway is an amasing experience.
